a flight and a crash

Sorry that I’ve been a bet absent the last week or two…I’ve had a lot of shoots outside of my “normal” shoots that have kept me away the keyboard, which is actually kind of refreshing.  I’m doubling back now.

These are from a Cardinal Mooney High School baseball double header, in which I got nothing in the first game.  These are from the second.  Shooting baseball is a crazy mental game you have to play. Pick a risky position and miss a key play.  Blink and all of a sudden an outfielder is laying out for a ball.  Shoot too tight and you miss that leaping player.  Sit on your ass until your feet fall asleep and as you readjust, a foul ball careens right over your head.  A no hitter and you’re stuck with a pitcher picture.  Take your camera off the batter and a bean ball or broken bat (of course) happens even though you’ve spent the last three months not even seeing one.

This one game provided a few outs for me…luckily my chance of shooting with a wider lens from directly behind home helped me land the home plate leap.  He was called safe.  It was one of those moments where I felt the lens snap out of focus for a brief milli-second – spurring a frantic chimping session.

I love that first shot. Also, can the next entry be called “No Division”?
