Spent a couple hours covering the 44th Annual Florida Scholastic Rowing Association State Championships in Saturday.  I have never covered a rowing meet, so I really had no idea what to expect.  For a high school event to have professional catering, golf carts with knowledgeable escorts, and someone always thanking you for finally covering their event, I had trouble leaving.  They handed out a a dictionary of rowing terms.  Really.  I wish I had the assignment to next day, because they was even offers of boat access and a helicopter.  I mean, c’mon.  Want to press the button for me while I sip on some more free lemon-lime Gatorade and cool myself off with a fan?

Anyway, here’s a small little take from it – unfortunately, it was the preliminary rounds, so I missed out on the throwing of bodies into the water after a win.

I’m definitely looking forward to next year when I can actually tell you what the coxswain does – and how to spell it.

Thanks for sharing, I rowed for 4 years in college, before college I didn’t even know the sport existed, it’s got some great aspects about it, and some very interesting people.
