dog made dirt

I’ve been going to the Sarasota Kennel Club for a couple years now just to play poker, but have been wanting to shoot there for even longer. Ironically, we’re doing a story on how that same poker has dragged the greyhound racing business down. I’ve always watched the dogs from up in the stands in between breaks but never really spent any time down by the actual racetrack to get the full sense of how fast greyhounds actually are. Funny thing is when I was laying on the ground getting the first shot, the kennel manager told me not to move an inch because they chase anything in their path that moves. Insane. I sent most of the afternoon photogrpahing the last frame…dirt flying and dogs passing me by.

Hey Chip,
Nice work at the track. When I’m down there to visit my parents I try to make it a point to drop in at least once for some poker. They occasionally go for the dogs. I spent a little time there photographing – what a fantastic place to shoot. great characters, a real brokedown palace!

pics are awesome. i don’t like the dog racing part of it.. they use those dogs up and don’t give them a life! the lucky ones get adopted after the race days, but until then life is pretty miserable.
